and replace "Name" with adding a new way (drop-down list) for adding a layer quickly

Where is the Z-Depth column? it is needed to sort layers by true depth.
There is a action button bar at the bottom of the panel, shouldn't it be the place to put those widgets?
(when would you send the patch for the beauty new layer icons we see in your screen captures? ;))
