And now the first version of the installer is live! It's probably got bugs so please say if something is wrong. Head over to http://code.secondplanetanimation.com/synfig-osx to download. If you have problems, https://github.com/secondplanet/synfig-osx/issues or to submit a patch, https://github.com/secondplanet/synfig-osx. This is not the bast way of installing, but I've been looking into other solutions with some help from the Homebrew mailing list and issue tracker.

That's a problem I've heard about in an e-mail also. I've established that it's definitely a bug, so it can't work. I'm not exactly sure why yet but I'll look into it this weekend.

I have noticed that the install for Mac OS X does not work for me either. I understand the bugs are still being worked out in this binary, but I was curious anyway about how it worked. I am glad that there will soon be a working .DMG binary for the Intel Macintosh. I am running a 2009 iMac with Intel Core i7 processor and 4 GB of RAM. It has XCode, X11, MacPorts, and I will establish Homebrew on it soon. I am running Mac OS X 10.6.7 Snow Leopard, so everything is current. Do you think that the fact I am running 10.6.7 is why it is not working? Or, is it an internal problem with the binary itself? Any assistance is duly appreciated. Thanks!

The problem here is there is no binary: it just attempts to build from source on install. This is done using a shell script which obviously isn't working very well. I'm running the same Mac version, so that's not a problem at all. I think the most problematic part is the differences between different machines. I haven't worked on it recently, but I'm close to getting something working that copies a precompiled binary.

Oh. OK. So, would I need Homebrew, or just wait for the precompiled binary? I am curious because although I have a port of Synfig from MacPorts, I would like to install a binary when it comes out, which I am confident will happen now. Either way, I have Synfig anyway. I'd just like the binary just to have a copy should I uninstall MacPorts from my system, like a "hard copy" of the application, so to speak.

Running into the same problems as listed above. I manually installed imagemagick which reduced the number of errors but still left me with a few:

Any suggestion how to resolve that? Simply re-install from scratch?
