Whenever I open Synfig Studio, where there should be text, there are only rectangles. I just got it today. Can anybody help?

Looks like your GTK install may be missing/corrupt/non-standard... Have you tried an un-install/reinstall of Synfig?
Can you supply info about your OS, Synfig version, etc?
